Ingredients 

Batter

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 8 hot dogs wooden skewers inserted
  • as needed vegetable oil for frying

Instructions 

  1. 1. Heat oil in a deep fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. 2. In a large bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. 3. Stir in milk and beaten egg until smooth.
  4. 4. Insert wooden skewers into hot dogs and dip them into the batter, coating evenly.
  5. 5. Fry the coated hot dogs in the hot oil until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes.
  6. 6. Drain on paper towels and serve hot.
