Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Yellow lentils (moong dal)
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium Tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 2 tablespoon Ghee or oil
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 tablespoon Fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions 

  1. 1. Wash the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 15 minutes.
  2. 2. Heat ghee or oil in a handi over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. 3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. 4. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for another minute.
  5. 5. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil separates.
  6. 6. Drain the soaked lentils and add them to the handi. Mix well.
  7. 7. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and let it simmer until the lentils are cooked and the dal reaches the desired consistency.
  8. 8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
