Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Yellow lentils (moong dal)
  • 4 cups Water
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee or oil
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 inch Ginger, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 tablespoon Fresh coriander leaves, chopped

Instructions 

  1. 1. Rinse the lentils thoroughly under cold water.
  2. 2. In a pot, add the lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until lentils are soft, about 20 minutes.
  3. 3. In another pan, heat ghee or oil. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  4. 4. Add chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until onions are golden brown.
  5. 5. Add turmeric, coriander powder, and garam masala. Cook for another minute.
  6. 6. Pour the cooked lentils into the pan with the spices. Mix well and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  7. 7. Blend the soup to your desired consistency using a blender.
  8. 8. Season with salt to taste. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves before serving.
