Indian Mushroom Pulao

Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups Basmati Rice rinsed and soaked for 30 minutes
  • 200 grams Mushrooms sliced
  • 1 large Onion sliced
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 inch Ginger minced
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt or to taste
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 handful Cilantro chopped, for garnish

Instructions 

  1. Heat ghee in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  2. Add sliced onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add minced garlic and ginger, sauté for another minute.
  4. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until they release water and start to brown.
  5. Add garam masala, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Stir gently to mix with the spices and mushrooms.
  7. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
  8. Turn off the heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork.
  9. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
