Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Yellow lentils (moong dal) rinsed
  • 2 cups Spinach chopped
  • 1 medium Onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 1 inch Ginger grated
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon Salt or to taste
  • 2 tablespoon Oil
  • 3 cups Water

Instructions 

  1. 1. Rinse the lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. 2. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.
  3. 3. Add the chopped onions, garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
  4. 4. Add the turmeric powder and sauté for another minute.
  5. 5. Add the rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 20 minutes or until the lentils are soft.
  6. 6. Add the chopped spinach and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. 7. Stir in the garam masala and salt. Adjust seasoning as needed.
  8. 8. Use a blender to blend the dal to your desired consistency. Serve hot.
