Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Toor dal (split pigeon peas)
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 tablespoon Ghee or oil
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida (hing)
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • 2 Green chilies slit
  • 1 Tomato chopped
  • 2 tablespoon Coriander leaves chopped

Instructions 

  1. 1. Rinse the toor dal thoroughly and soak it in water for 10 minutes.
  2. 2. In a saucepan, add the soaked dal, water, and turmeric powder. Cook until the dal is soft.
  3. 3. In another pan, heat ghee or oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida. Let them splutter.
  4. 4. Add green chilies and chopped tomato. Cook until the tomato is soft.
  5. 5. Add the cooked dal to the pan. Add salt and mix well. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
  6. 6. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot.
