Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Toor Dal (Pigeon Pea Lentils)
  • 1 cup Mixed Vegetables (Carrot, Beans, Potato) chopped
  • 1 medium Onion chopped
  • 2 medium Tomatoes chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Tamarind Pulp
  • 2 tablespoons Sambar Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 2 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida (Hing)
  • 1 sprig Curry Leaves
  • to taste Salt
  • 2 cups Water

Instructions 

  1. 1. Wash the toor dal and cook it in a pressure cooker with 2 cups of water until soft.
  2. 2. In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add asafoetida and curry leaves.
  3. 3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Then add tomatoes and cook until soft.
  4. 4. Add chopped vegetables, turmeric powder, sambar powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  5. 5. Add tamarind pulp and cooked dal to the pan. Mix well and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  6. 6. Adjust the consistency by adding water if needed. Simmer for another 5 minutes and turn off the heat.
  7. 7. Serve hot with rice or idli.
