Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 2 cups Japanese short-grain rice
  • 2.5 cups Water
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 sheets Nori (seaweed) cut into strips

Optional Fillings

  • 1 can Tuna drained and mixed with mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoon Pickled plum (umeboshi)

Instructions 

  1. 1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. 2. Cook the rice in a rice cooker with 2.5 cups of water.
  3. 3. Once the rice is cooked, let it cool slightly.
  4. 4. Wet your hands with water and sprinkle with salt.
  5. 5. Take a handful of rice and form it into a ball or triangle shape.
  6. 6. Make a small indentation in the center and add your desired filling.
  7. 7. Cover the filling with more rice and reshape if necessary.
  8. 8. Wrap a strip of nori around the rice ball.
  9. 9. Repeat with the remaining rice and fillings.
