Main Ingredients
- 1 cup lentils
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, minced
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- 4 cups water
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Rinse lentils under cold water.
Heat oil in a pot. Add cumin and mustard seeds.
Add chopped onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté until onions are golden.
Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
Add lentils and water. Bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer for 25-30 minutes until lentils are tender.
Stir in garam masala. Adjust seasoning.
Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
